How can we students keep ourselves safe? Here are some tips.

On your way home or to school: Wait for the g         traffic light, and look left and right before you cross the road. If you see a car coming, don’t cross until it really s      . Dress in bright colors, so the drivers can see you e        .

At school: When students around you begin to push, try to hold onto something, or stay in a sager corner. If you f         down in a crowded place, cover your head w         both hands.

When there’s a fire: Stay calm and leave quickly. Use a piece of wet cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don’t breathe in s        . If your clothes catch fire, drop to the ground and roll from side to side to p         out the fire.

For eating: Wash f       like apples or pears carefully before you eat them. Check the expiration dates(保质期) and if your food looks or smells b        , don’t eat it.

For riding on the escalator(自动扶梯): Hold onto the handrails(扶手) and stand on the right side of the escalator because right arms are stronger. It is d           to run up and down on them. You may fall down because escalator steps are not designed for running. (2013泰州)

Twelve years ago. I Icamcd an important life lesson in the back of a taxi in the New York City.

I got into a taxi and we drove to Grand Central Station. While we were d         in the right lane(车道), a black car s         jumped out of a parking space just in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes(猛踩刹车), skidded(打滑) and missed the other car by several inches! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big a        , started saying bad words al us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy.

I asked him. “W         did you just do that? This guy almost hit your car and could have sent us to h        !" He said. "Many people are like rubbish (卡车). They run around full of rubbish. They need a place to dump it. When someone w        to dump on you, just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happier if you do like that".

I thought his words were very m        . I couldn't help asking myself. “How often do a________  this kind of people to dump rubbish on me? And how often do I take their rubbish and spread it onto other people: at work, at home, on the streets?'' On that day I r         . “I’m not going lo do it any more.”

Since then. I have started to see people like rubbish trucks e           . And like my taxi driver. I just smile, wave, wish them well, and then I move on. (2013镇江)
